Bishop Ernest Obodo has been elected as the new chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Enugu State Chapter, marking a significant leadership transition for the organization. The election, held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, concluded a transparent and orderly process that saw Bishop Obodo, the Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu, emerge as the new leader.

The election followed the dissolution of the previous executive, led by Rev. Amb. Emmanuel Ede, who served since 2020. Rt. Rev. Daniel Olinya was also elected as Vice Chairman during the same event. In his acceptance speech, Bishop Obodo emphasized his commitment to fostering unity, peace, and accountability among Christians in the state. He also commended the electoral process, describing it as a model for free and fair elections in Nigeria.

The new leadership received well wishes from Rev. Ede, the immediate past chairman, who reflected on his own tenure and called on the new executive to uphold principles of equity, fairness, and justice. Rev. Ede highlighted inclusiveness as a major achievement of his leadership and pledged his support to Bishop Obodo. The South East Zonal Chairman of CAN, Rev. Abraham Nwali, offered prayers for the success of the new executive, seeking divine guidance for their tenure.

With Bishop Obodo at the helm, this election signals a new chapter for CAN in Enugu State, poised to advance the interests and unity of Christians in the region.
